are there real productivity gains from these languages that seem to burn bright for a year or two and then disappear in favor of something else? or just tailfins?

I hate java tbh, it’s so verbose doing anything feels like you have to write the name of he class 3 times.

I’ve worked a lot with Swift and objective-c. Swift is much easier to code in. Easier to read for non-iOS devs because the syntax apes the good parts of python and JavaScript. Optionals basically force you to check for null and “show your work”, this is actually kind of a pain but can prevent careless errors.

Kotlin is similar to swift in many ways. TBF I’m not sure this all out weighs the pain in the ass of learning some new language and probably rewriting a bunch of code

kotlin is easy enough to pick up for a java dev that if you can there's not much reason NOT to switch, which

Clojure is a neat language but definitely not the norm for what java devs will be used to. kotlin is something that people can easily get started on in a week if they're used to java and enjoy some of the flexibility off the bat. with google supporting it it's a no brainer
