What do you consider "downtown Orange County"

There are a few contenders:

1. John Wayne Airport Area (odd that's its at the intersection of 4 cities)

2. South Coast Area

3. Platinum Triangle

4. Downtown Santa Ana

Discuss your thoughts on all 4 areas

I think platinum triangle has unlimited potential

1. John Wayne Airport Area (odd that's its at the intersection of 4 cities)

There is nothing in the John Wayne airport region other than business buildings. So it can't even qualify as downtown cause no nightlife.

2. South Coast Area

This is a good area and I know many people would consider this to be downtown Orange county because the most prestigious restaurants in all of Orange county are located in this area. But it doesn't seem like a downtown because a real downtown has lots of history and lots of antiquated buildings. A real downtown also has lots of community events like a farmers market, a festival, and a real downtown is also a place where people gather to protest or do marches, etc.

3. Platinum Triangle

This area is trying to hard to be the go-to place in Orange county but it's all the way in Anaheim. A downtown area should be at the center of the region. The platinum triangle seems way too planned and thought out. Like it just seems like some developer dude came up with a plan to make this the "spot." But it doesn't feel like it.

4. Downtown Santa Ana

This is the center of Orange county no doubt. Everyone in OC knows about this place. Now that downtown Santa Ana has been renovated, lots more people are feeling safer to come out and enjoy nightlife HERE. It used to be ghetto but it's incredibly pretty and safe these days. Lots of great buildings architecture. Unlike the 3 regions above, downtown Santa Ana has lots of hole in the wall type restaurants and lots of dive bars and lots of little mom and pop shops scattered all over. There's a real sense of community gathering here too.

True only Santa Ana has a walkable area, but it has the least business of all of the four but it does have the major courthouses

I guess you could make an argument for Fullerton downtown too maybe

Lots and lots of business near downtown Santa Ana. If you go down Main St, you'll see business everywhere. Lots of industrial and manufacturing type business too.

Is that on harbor blvd??? That's what I don't like about platinum triangle. Too modernized. Too developed. Too try hard.

It's kind of like Huntington Beach in the PCH area. Lots of huge hotels and huge buildings and resorts. Seems like a place for tourists. Doesn't seem like a place where you can just ride your beach cruiser to enjoy the sand and the beach.

Not sure the description said it was downtown

HB tourist area is really small it's just between beach blvd and Main Street on PCH. The remainder still has the beach feeling

Downtown Costa mesa (triangle square area) is also a good contender.

There's also balboa peninsula.

Not much but every friday/Saturday it gets packed. And especially in the summers, everyone goes to those two areas. If they want to go to Newport beach, they have to pass by downtown Costa mesa because the end of the 55 freeway ends there.

Oh yeah definitely. Very beautiful. There's a difference between balboa peninsula and balboa island, btw. The latter is really great during winter to just walk around with maybe a girlfriend. There's also a 180 boat parade in December

Broooo... during the summers. Go on the board walk on the peninsula. Walk, run, bike just go. You won't regret it . It's 180 and relaxing.
