I'm extremely, extremely sympathetic to current associates. A biglaw partner came and gave us a presentation the other day. It wasn't what we wanted. Biglaw partner totally stared his associate down and threw him under the bus. I could only imagine the reaming out he gave him as soon as the presentation was over. I felt terrible.

Probably not fired, just made his life unreasonably miserable for at least a few days. Biglaw partners are psychos.

Lol. That happened with me. We were doing a presentation to an existing client and I fucked up the year: put 2090 instead of 2009 for the date of the act. Partner just noted the discrepancy and stared at me as he clicked to the next slide. Back at the office he gave me a 10 min talk about being detailed and said that stuff like this can cost us work. That's when I realized biglaw wasnt for me.

This was even worse than that. This was just about not reading the client's mind. I would have done the same thing if I were the associate. It was an afterthought thing, like "it would have been nice if you had projected this through X year instead of Y year." The partner immediately just threw his associate under the bus and said it was "on them" and that they would do another seminar for us, free of charge, of course. He was *very* visibly annoyed with the associate.

JFC, you should tell that partner to treat his associates nicer or else you'll fire his ass

Lol I don't have the authority to fire outside counsel and they would know that. But yeah. I even mentioned it to more senior folk and they just brushed me off. I'm like that junior is gonna get REAMED OUT and the other inhouse bros were like "nooo [partner bro] is a really good guy he would never!!!" People are so naive.

The single shrews IME are all batshit crazy - one woman I knew who is still single at 34 in biglaw has bipolar disorder (no flame).

Did you gain weight or lose hair?

I know some senior associate women in biglaw who gained like 80 pounds plus started balding....don't they know a woman's value is mainly in her appearance? ljl

But yes, when you're in it, you are pretty much in a rabbit hole digging yourself deeper and deeper with no way out

I kept skinny. Had some fluctuations (20lbs up and down here and there) but the lasting damage is psychological and the grey hair

Jump in front of a car? train? jump off a building?

for some reason those 3 stuck in my mind, but it would be the worst if you didn't die quickly
