Then the second episode flawlessly executed the promise of the concept. I can't think of another good drama that dialed it in so quickly other than peer show Breaking Bad. Sopranos seems superior because a home run series opener or pilot feels more common. Also Sopranos was really the first show of the cable prestige golden era so it didn't have all the references for formula and industry brain capital that benefited subsequent shows, arguably making Sopranos a more significant creative endeavor. Sopranos ushered in this major evolution in the entertainment industry and the second episode of the first season, when the series really grabbed its audience, is a major moment in the whole sequence. By extension it's a notable achievement in television history.
