really? I keep reading that DC is the frontrunner.

I feel like Philly or Baltimore might be most appropriate though. Still in a major tech corridor generally... also near a lot of population centers... but not sky high cost of living.

DC would probably be the best city by far but housing costs are high.

Austin is the top-ranked option to host Amazon HQ2, according to research by Moody’s Analytics, thanks in large part to Texas’ business-friendly environment and a relatively low cost-of-living and operation.

“Austin has the highest score on business environment in the top 10, thanks to fast job growth, a dynamic tech economy, and the high incentives Texas offers businesses,” the firm said.

I've been saying all along that it's stupid and gay as fuck to make this public ass kissing bidding contest just to end up in DC or Austin or some other major/trendy city. that's still probably what they will do anyways.

Somewhere that will allow amazon to have a bigger political influence ie through their captured congressmen and such. TX seems like a good option.

Philly. Acela corridor, decently educated workforce (and a location you could easily convince millennial employees to move to), but cheaper than NY or DC and easier to browbeat local officials into insane tax breaks, etc.

they're not going to go to regions/cities that are handing them massive subsidies because those are poortowns no one wants to live in. of the cities that have the culture, agglomeration opportunities, and educated workforces they need are maybe five or six. austin might win because it's not that far a flight/fewer time zones away.

Austin has a shitty airport so that's its only real downside.

Atlanta and Boston both also have solid chances

They're looking to build a campus to house 50k workers. They're not taking the bus to work. They'll build the thing in Round Rock or San Marcos or Dripping Springs and call it "Austin."
