He slashed the budget and and made the requirements for a pilot slot absurdly high. He then made a big push into drones. No one wants to be a fucking RC pilot. I was well on my way to getting a pilot slot but got written up by a RA for underage drinking, so they kicked me out. Under the Bush administration the ROTC cadre would of laughed about it and tell me to be a better drinker.
The issue is they didn't have enough pilots in the training pipeline due to the ridiculous standards and lack of investment. Now they lack rated pilots with hours. Surprise. |

Current hiring climate by major airlines combined with eroding benefits and culture in the military has most pilots punching out at the end of their service commitment.
Also, everyone hates the Air Force, and nobody more than the people who serve in it. |
