OK...but the Soviet Union survived for 80 years as a multiethnic state, and previously the Tsarist Empire ruled much of the same territory and didn't collapse because of ethnic differences. It doesn't explain why the Russian Empire and its Soviet successor state survived when other multi-ethnic states like the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary collapsed.
It was weak sauce. A theory a high school sophomore might propose. |
