i'm not really the biggest PHC fan, but that kind of high-middlebrow entertainment used to be part of "americana." most of that show is small-band arrangements of bach pieces, along with jokes and anecdotes about bach. seems like that whole idea has kind of been lost - that "normal" people should have some sort of familiarity with the high culture, even if it wasn't their thing. ie, having pretensions without being pretentious.
