Interviewing for a litigation job soon. How do I get the job.

Do I ask what they're looking for? What they usually worry about when they hire someone?

I feel like this is all sales, and I have sales skills. I just need to know what angle to work. Lawyers are risk-averse people, so how do I make myself seem like a safe choice without being boring?

If you’re not reading up on the fire code for this interview you’re literally insane.

i don't have much to offer here but you should provide some details like type of firm, your year, etc.

biglaw, 3L, below avg grades.

This is actually my 2nd interview with this firm, it's with a different guy, and I think they gave me this follow up interview because they either felt sorry for me or recognized that I was hustling my ass off making connections and thought maybe I had an "IT" quality.

lol no-one in biglaw hires someone because they think they hustle and have "it". One if you were "it" you wouldn't be a retard with below average grades. Two they think you're an idiot working "connections" and neglecting important things - your grades. They aren't hiring you to be a rainmaker the first year and basically you have shown you negligent hard work and ability to produce quality irrespective of your "sales quality'. You won't talk to a client for 7 years from now so it is pointless to their hiring needs atm

What you're saying makes sense, but why would they schedule a follow-up interview then?

show the range of hiring quality out there. They need some dumbasses to show the hiring committee the low faulty of candidates and/or to make the one they really want shine. Basically you are just a quality control person so the hiring partner can gauge the competency of the one they really want

honestly, i think it comes down to your grades and coming off as non-aspie. i think doing the ridiculous song and dance effectively of "why i'm interested in your firm" (uh, money...) and asking questions or whatever can show them you're not aspie and you at least know how to come off as prepared.

edit: and their need to fill a spot.

i always ask what the company's biggest challenges have been recently and going forward.

i feel like it takes them down a notch, to remember they aren't perfect and they need to improve. which is where i come in.

Really? Seems insincere. Like, they know I'm just some thirsty law student, and why would I give a shit about their challenges or know how to fix them?

EDIT: just saw your edit, that's a good point
