5. The footnote already got indicted. What do you think is going to happen to High-Ranking Campaign Official and Campaign Supervisor? One of these guys is Kushner. I am guessing campaign supervisor.
6. The trip didn't take place because the Russians met with Kushner and Junior at Trump Tower in June 2016. All the statements about the Trump campaign, and Trump himself, not knowing what was being offered at the meeting are false in light of the above. The Russian attorney they met with could be the Female Russia National.
7. Trump's folk instructed GP to continue his outreach efforts in August 2016.
8. The Russian attorney woman was involved in a money laundering case that was settled for pennies on the dollar by Trump's DOJ after he dismissed Preet.

i'm not a criminal guy, but people that are reading the indictments today as a sign this investigation is over and mueller has nothing seem pretty naive. more charges on manafort and gates can be added later. he is running stuff he can prove now in the hopes they will flip, and probably charged them together because he thinks they have similar information. that would make both more likely to flip ("i have one deal on the table, who wants it"). manafort is a money grubber not a true believer, and those types are more keen to betray people up the ladder. watch for the bail hearing on this. mueller is going to play hardball for a huge number they can't pay (and push them to prove any money they put up for bail didn't come from illegal sources). he is pry thinking that if he can keep them in jail, each is more likely to talk. dropping the Papadopoulos shit today also seems like a pretty clear message to trump's circle. and either way, i don't know how you can read the limited info provided in these indictments and reach the conclusion this is good news for Trump or bad news for "democrats" generally. there are a number of not so subtle signals in all the charging documents out today making clear that mueller is revving up and has significant shit he is playing close to his vest. |

I'm a conservative Republican who opposed Trump in the GOP primary and reluctantly voted for him in the general (first campaign in which I did not donate money to or volunteer for the GOP nominee for the Presidency). I'm also super nervous about 2018 and have major doubts about his 2020 re-election. However, the twitter rants aside, there is no doubt that the media despises Trump and has put out blatantly false stories about him while playing cover for Obama and Hillary.

Sure, people admitted that she was not charismatic, but the narrative of her being a "terrible" candidate did not emerge until AFTER the election.
Joseph Smith is right that his margins in PA/MI/WI were super thin, all below 1%. And Trump won FL by just 1.2%. So it certainly was not a YUGE victory within normal context. But consider the fact that WI had not gone to a Republican since Reagan 1984 and MI and PA since Bush 1988. Trump's 8.1% margin in OH was the largest by ANY candidate since Bush 1988. Trump was also the first Republican to win any electoral votes from Maine since Bush 1988. And his 9.4% margin in IA was the best by any Republican since Nixon 1972 and just shy of Obama's 9.5% margin in 2008 in the aftermath of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
One can also make a plausible argument that only Trump and maybe 1 or 2 others could have defeated Hillary. The problem with Jeb and Rubio was that although they would have done well with college whites and thus reduced the loss margin in big blue states such as WA, CA, IL, NY, MD, MA, and won FL/TX by bigger margins than Trump, it's unclear whether they could have converted the rust belt states by driving up white working class voters. We'll never know for sure, but we do know that Trump pulled off the greatest political upset in American history.

Nothing in Manafort and Gates' indictment is related to Trump or the so-called "Trump-Russia collusion" story.
The third indictment could be more problematic for Trump, as it directly relates to the 2016 presidential campaign. George Papadopoulos was a low level Trump foreign policy advisor (the guy had no credentials, but that was part for the course for the Trump campaign) who promised high-level meetings between the Trump campaign and Russian officials and subsequently lied to the FBI about his involvement. Papadopoulos' efforts to arrange a direct meeting between Trump and Putin were squashed by the team, who recognized the flagrant violation of U.S. law that such a meeting would entail. The big question here is whether Trump knew about Papadopoulos' intentions and encouraged it or whether he was out of the loop since the guy was a low level advisor.
As of now, I don't see anything that directly connects these indictments to Trump. I never bought the Trump-Russia collusion hysteria, so we'll see if Mueller can establish a connection beyond the shadow of a doubt. Even if he doesn't, it is disconcerting that Trump hired so many shady people. Part of this stems from the fact that reputable Republicans did not want to work for the guy, so he was left with essentially the D Team. |
