Whether they’ve qualified or not, i don’t think any of Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Wales, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Serbia, Croatia, Russia, Ukraine, are very good right now. With all of them you can look back a short time and see when they had way better teams.
WC might as well be Spain, Germany, France, England and the four best from South America. |

But it’s not really relevant because I’m not aware of any national teams that play a true high press. Requires too much coordination and time at the training ground to get it right so you see a lot less counterpressing and a lot slower-developing attacks at major international tournaments than you do in Champions League. Fewer goals too. That’s why the WC is usually boring. |
