I watched a little bit of this match yesterday, and Kubot/Melo who have been crushing it lately played HORRIBLY against Murray and Soares. So bad in fact, that it looked like a tank job to me without knowing any other facts.
But today, as I look at the doubles semi-finals, I see that Kubot/Melo, who are the #1 doubles team in the world, beat Harrison and Venus (a pretty green team this year, qualifying on the strength of their RG win). However the other SF features Kontinen and Peers, the #2 doubles team who lost to Harrison and Venus, but who are far more accomplished.
Did Kubot and Melo tank their final RR in order to get the easier SF? Of particular note, Murray and Soares would not have qualified had they lost, so they were certainly playing all out to win.
