https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/17/opinion/jay-z-meek-mill-probation.html?mtrref=www.nytimes.com&assetType=opinion

In Pennsylvania, hundreds of thousands of people are on probation or parole. About half of the people in city jails in Philadelphia are there for probation or parole violations. We could literally shut down jails if we treated people on parole or probation more fairly.

LET MY PEOPLE GO....

And that’s what we need to fight for in Philadelphia and across the country. The racial-justice organization Color of Change is working with people in Philadelphia to pressure the courts there and make that vision a reality. Probation is a trap and we must fight for Meek and everyone else unjustly sent to prison.

He's violated his probation a lot more than Jay-Z is letting on here. He's really been caught with like 10 violations in six years.

https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/why-did-meek-mill-go-to-prison/?mbid=homepage-more-latest-and-video

I know that article says there were 5 violations, but it's really more than that because he's had multiple violations rolled into a single disciplinary hearing. He's also had a failed drug test for weed and opiates not count as a violation for some reason.

Quite frankly, the shocking thing here is that he wasn't sent back to prison sooner. Fucking cartoon world

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really a fan of really long probation periods. But within two years of his initial release this dude pissed hot for opiates twice. He should have been thrown back in prison at that point, or at least put on house arrest.

But what they they do? They postponed hearings for him, let him tour, didn't really do anything to him when he blew off another drug test... it's total bullshit that people think he's being treated unfairly right now when he's been handled with kid gloves for years now

I think drug tests are bullshit *if* the conviction had nothing to do with substance abuse.

But this guy's original offense was for drugs and guns. Fine by me if he goes back in after two piss tests come back hot

i really do think it's unfair to cage people like this, because they 'failed a drug test.'

let them all out of prison, but they have to go... somewhere else. they can't live in society w/ white people.

give them (blacks) Nevada, or Cuba.
