You can date and through the gf make these "soft" friends, which is fine, but you'll never have bros again and that really sucks for us rootless fuckers. Just went to dinner tonight with a bunch of people who stayed home, i.e. didn't leave my current city, and they have such a nice connection with one another and have incorporated gfs and wives and even babies and it's actual community, which xo often talks about as being really hard to find. Makes you feel like shit when you know you're perma-fucked and excluded from anything not your family, and in my case, family is all over the country, as are friends.

say you get your BA at uh, Ohio State -- so you have a bunch of friends living in Columbus and in Ohio and probably Chicago
Then you move to LA and maybe a few OSU kids end up there, but you have a "second shot" at school where they have organic friendship developing activities by, say, being a law student at USC or whatever.
That's the second shot you get so you'd be in your mid-20s and presumably have a social network in LA.
Now imagine being 30 and moving to LA without that network. You don't have the school "in" that I described.
