Relationships without mutual love are not only worthless but actually of negative value, an appreciable torment one appreciates and suffers from beyond the were time it wasted.

But at the same time, mutual love is extremely difficult to find. Chemuistry is insanely random and leaves you with this 'wtf' reaction when it finally strikes. It's not something people can reliably create.

Despite both the points above, we need (historically) most males and (even today) most women to be having kids to get the birth rate at replacement level. Without the incentive of a relationship, most people don't want to do that. But most relationships suck if they're kept artificially alive beyond the "honeymoon period." Most relationships should have ended at like month 3.
