They also get paid hourly and only for time IN AIR - meaning no pay for lugging shit around airport, taxiing, delays etc.

Flight attendants starting out at regionals will make

Something like 16-18/hr but are only paid for time from when aircraft door closes till it opens again. So like 18-20k per year. They get per diem (actually calculated on a per hour basis) for number of hours they are on a trip but not flying. Typically something in the 1-2$ per hour range.

Hotels are typically near airport holiday inn, four points, etc. Sometimes they get lucky and get a Westin.

When I was last in HK I struck up a conversation with a Cathy Pacific stewardess.

She said all the ppl with less than 7 years experience, at that airline, make no money and their job is awful. However for ppl working Cathy or emeriates or whatever it is light years better than what they had. She said prior to Cathy she worked for a regional Indian airline (she's Indian) and it was awful so Cathy was a massive step up. She also said Cathy and emeriates also would recruit the hottest stewardess twice a year from her airline.

She also said the hotels she stays in Arnt bad but they essentially live in dorms in HK near the airport. Also said the poliots treat the stewardess like a harem.
