I tried to learn erlang a while back but just didn't have the time. I'm too old to really get the hang of something so esoteric without devoting a lot of time to it

Elixir seems 180. Not a fan of some elements of the rubyesque-syntax at all (do/end etc. drive me up the fucking wall and just make code harder to read rather than making braces less "ambiguous"), but overall it looks well designed and fun to play around with.

Going through it now. I'm not a fan of some of the rubyesque syntax (*cough*"DO"*cough*) but overall it's a nice fun language. Basically if erlang was written for mid-IQ humans instead of high-powered spergs.

My last company were big early adopters of Elixir. I spun up a proof of concept Phoenix app but didn't do anything further.

Seems good for concurrency but I usually don't learn a new tool until it fundamentally solves a problem for me, personally.

It's pretty fun. Particularly nice if someone hasn't really worked much with the actor model pattern of doing things.
