More broadly, I have a negative outlook because the entire attitude toward dating, sex, and relationships among people I know, even those who are apparently conservative and religious, is largely or totally opposed to the values I have myself. Once you add in standard filters like "Do I actually enjoy interacting with this person" and "Does this person have the right traits to be a good partner" there's just not a lot out there. Maybe I sound like some shrew with her 47-item checklist for Mr. Right but my mentality is that I don't HAVE to marry, and marriage is so dicey in today's society that a very high-quality person is required to make it a worthwhile endeavor. |

Much of this is on me of course. I'm of average to below-average appearance and have a naturally beta demeanor, I'm a homebody who enjoys routine, my hobbies are all 100% male shit most people consider REALLY dull, and I have a small circle of very close friends rather than a broad circle that works well for meeting people organically.
Of course, none of that stopped my dad 30 years ago. But he was 6'2. |
