My review of British Airways First Class (with pics) LHR-JFK BA 179

A quick TTTwo days in London revealed that it's still a massively overraTTTed dump. Got in late on Thurs on pathetically bad SAS only to find they don't offer fast track for business class passengers and a plane of 10,000 NOWAGS had just landed, immigration took forever.
Checked into the Four Seasons Park Lane, which might as well be officially in Saudi Arabia. After freshening up, met up with quasi-gf and my parents for dinner at Alain Ducasse. LJL at this TTT dump having 3-michelin stars, the food was mediocre at best, and I was shocked it even had one star. The restaurant is in the Dorchester which was always too mussie, but JFC is it bad now. The lobby looked liked a street scene in Riyadh, eye slit bedsheets everywhere.
After dinner, Quasi GF and I met up with the couple whose wedding I went to in Beirut in August. They were at the Saville Club with some woman I didn't remember from the wedding and Lord something or other. After a drinks we went to Annabelles which was pretty TTT.
The next day quasi-gf and I were around town, met up with some friends to go out and nothing particularly eventful happened. Finally, it was time to go back to MURICA.
Most of the BA flights leave from T5 https://imgur.com/a/ppqIq . Usually traffic is horrible, but since this was a late Saturday afternoon departure, it was fine.
There's a dedicated F check in to the right side of the terminal as well as a dedicated security line, so you don't have to wait https://imgur.com/a/8ggev . Once you're through security, there's a long hallway that takes you to the lounges https://imgur.com/a/n8iMw . This dumps you out into the Galleries First Lounge https://imgur.com/a/CEhWe .
If you're on DAT BA F tip, you want to continue through this lounge to the Concorde Room https://imgur.com/a/vH4Ze .
BA has Concorde Rooms at JFK and LHR, they are supposed to be their top lounge. It's pretty mediocre compared to really 180 lounges like LH FCT/FCL or the TG lounge in BKK. Concorde Room has comfortable seating areas, a bar, an a la carte restaurant (though they will serve you at your seat outside the restaurant), a nice terrace overlooking the terminal, cabanas that can be reserved, shower facilities and complimentary 15 minute spa treatments https://imgur.com/a/RhUQI .
The flight to JFK was leaving from gate B35, which requires a TTTram journey to a satellite portion of T5, it's annoying. On the ride over there was a shifty looking mussie with a briefcase, I was mildy worried it was a bomb.
BA hasn't retired their 747-400's yet, so one of these beautiful airplanes (registration G-CIVS) was set to take me to JFK https://imgur.com/a/oiBK4 . This was flight #7 of 2018, and my last flight until March or April :( .
BA F is OK, but not really much better than most good airline's business class products and nowhere near the best F products. However, their seats are pretty comfortable in both lounge and bed mode https://imgur.com/a/FyzmP . After everyone was settled in (11 of 14 seats occupied in F), they came around with SWAG and gave everyone pajamas and amenity kits, but <><><>NOSLIPPERS<><><> https://m.imgur.com/a/qzsfs .
Next, they distributed DEM menus. BA 179 is a late departure from LHR. They serve lunch/dinner right after takeoff, then baby sandwiches and little cakes before arrival https://imgur.com/a/EPVDz .
I didn't expect much from the meal service since BA is meh, but the salmon, soup and especially the braised pork belly main were all 18000000 (for some reason imgur messed up the order a bit) https://imgur.com/a/PVSdY .
I watched the 2nd Kingsman movie which was unbelievably stupid with dinner. After I tried to watch Valerian but it was fucking terrible, and even Cara Delevingne being CUTE as FUCK couldn't keep me interested, so I put on my PJs, had them make up the bed and copped DAT nap https://imgur.com/a/jgro4 .
I woke up about an hour outside of JFK and the stew brought the 2nd meal and I tried to watch the end of Valerian https://imgur.com/a/qwlDM .
I didn't make it to the end of the movie because there wasn't enough time, and some forced adverts took up some of the TV time anyway https://imgur.com/a/gBMMn .
Thanks to global entry, returning was a breeze. BA is pleasant enough, but not on the level of LH or LX transatlantic. Their F is only slightly more miles than biz which makes it worth it if you HAVE to fly BA. They charge absurd YQ fees on award tickets, so you end up paying miles + close to $1k to fly on an "award" ticket which is just LJL fucking stupid. |
