I'm also making sure to sample two types of dessert each day: the tiramisu was good, but the chocolate cookie is average. I eat while listening to a long presentation on the global biotech outlook for 2018.

First of all she only mentions her Bloomberg terminal ONCE and talks about checking quotes on it - the capacity of a Bloomberg terminal is enormous and any analyst or portfolio manager would be on it more and using it more.

Second of all

"I have my first meeting of the day. Today is not too busy, only two meetings total, but some of my investments are not doing well. I need to finish up my write-up and Excel models."

I've never heard of someone who works in this field call their positions "investments" in daily parlance. You can say positions or holdings, but saying "investments" is like a veteran cop saying, every time, "The suspected perpetrator of the crime" instead of "the suspect" or "the perp"

Second of all, her job title is MD - but she's doing meetings across sectors (analyst work) in addition to being a PM plus actual managerial responsibilities? Who are the writeups and reports for? Typically the analyst cooks those up for the PM and then those get passed to the MD? Oh wait she is the MD - why is she doing that

Also the skillsets required to analyze Pharmaceutical companies and Insurance companies are very different - to the point where if you are at a large shop running serious money you typically have a dedicated Pharma/Biotech analyst with a masters or PHD because of the specific knowledge required.

In reality - this is a food and travel blog spritzed with random finance buzzwords to clickbait.

My flight and I hotels are expensed ($6,500 for the business class flights and $3,000 for the hotels).

11 p.m. — My husband and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2018, so we "deserve" a trip without the kids. We'll spend three days in Tokyo, two nights in Hakone (known for their onsen, or mineral hot springs) at a ryokan (traditional Japanese house with homemade meals), and four days in Kyoto. It is so hard to choose a hotel because they are all rated highly by travelers. That's Japanese hospitality for you. I finally book my husband's economy flight ($1,100) and our accommodations in Hakone and Kyoto ($1,500).

This is fake. NO way a finance person who actually makes "on average" $1.5MM/year only spends $30/month on cabs (I'm assuming this includes uber and lyft) and $6,500/month on housing. Also, she covers 2 totally different sectors and has so much free time that she can go shopping mid-day. It is possible that she works at her parents' fund and is basically a finance RSF: no real job, no real responsibilities, includes her parents' wealth as part of her "income."

I️ know I’m just a pumo but some hedge funds have a generalist model and it’s possibke an analyst would meet with companies across industries. Further hedge fund titles are goofy - MD often is a title for “senior analyst” thus she could be doing her own write ups and sending them to the actual PM. Working 30 hours a week sounds like flame in said role, but it’s not completely ludicrous.

i was a generalist, but besides what other poasters have said, the massive free time and her language on write-ups implies its a pod like citadel/millennium or at least a sector specific P&L. all she seems to know about the industry is that we attend meetings.

also no generalists cover biopharma, u need to be specialized there. otherwise u would be spending so much time on biopharma stocks that u may as well just be a biopharma only P&L.

finally, why wouldn't she say PM or senior analyst. Almost no one has "managing director" as a title in a hedge fund. Family office, maybe.
