yeah, i am all for TOTAL freedom of speech, and am horrified by attempts to chip away at the edges of the 1st amendment (disallowing 'hate speech,' etc).

but the ONE thing i dislike about American style freedom of speech is the unserious commitment to punishing libel/slander. too many bullshit 'accusations' and hearsays, etc, get reported, because journalists just want to smear people for political reasons. there needs to be a higher standard.
