I've been thinking the same thing.
The trouble is that the underlying value of ETH is probably something like 20.
The rest is of the value is pure speculation.
If you want to capitalize on the speculation, you have to make an educated guess on how many more speculators will come in after your investment.
As the price drops, your investment gets cheaper, but it also negatively affects the chances that there will be more speculators.

Blockchain technology is completely mainstream - it's the applications thereof (such as crypto)that are still novel and niche.
Does ETH have real value? If it does, its probably close to whatever value it sustained over the longest period of time (which is $400-500).
You can easily argue that this value was inflated, too, but I'd argue that the better counter-argument is that this is merely a transitory technology with fleeting pricing. It may have "truly" been worth $400-$500, but niche technologies get supplanted quickly/easily. It could be worth far less at any moment based on a new currency, acquisitions, etc. It could also be worth far more. And that's where the speculators and ensuing bubble come in.

The value eth sustained over the longest period of time is around $1 not $500.
When the stock market crashes, unless society proceeds into a dark age, and people no longer need cars, clothes, electronics, and other essential privately provided good and services, it's a guarantee that it will recover. Apple, Samsung, Amazon, etc are all companies that are heavily integrated in society, they come back because there's massive intrinsic value. There is almost no intrinsic value with the crypto market. Even the few coins with partnerships, and physical products have almost no economic impact outside of the crypto trading. What reason, other than coordinated pump and dumps, would any massive group have to sink money into a crashing market, full of empty promises?

This doesn't make much sense. A transitory technology with a fleetingly high price would be something like HD-DVD if it had come out before blue-ray. But that tech actually provided actual value - i.e. the ability to watch high definition movies on your TV.
The "tech" behind Ethereum provided NO actual value when the prices were at $400-500. That price level consisted of (1) expectation of what the eventual actual value would be and (2) pure speculation as described above.

Don't buy all at once.
Put lots of smaller buy orders in a various prices.

Too late.
I dumped 25k into Bitcoins in at 1k each and sold at 16k each.
This will never happen to me again in my lifetime. I’m still amazed.
