you have to audit guests at random. you visit their rooms at night and there are questions you ask, collect information about them, receipts, etc.

it's like an IRS 'audit,' but it's not taxes. it's more a holistic 'lifestyle' inventory.

Yeah, I like it. Very chill, but I'm still learning a lot. I live in a higher cost of living city, so I wish I made a little more. Not a tech hub though, so I don't have great alternatives and not willing to do the rootless cosmo thing. Gotta count my blessings.

I actually got hired through a Hacker News monthly "who's hiring" thread. Not a great github, but a well designed portfolio page built from scratch, and I aced their coding interview project. Turns out their tech stack happened to align perfectly with what I had been studying/practicing with.

It's definitely not easy, but the payoff is huge. There are not a lot of paths where you can go from minimum wage to close to 6 figures in a year without any investment other than the opportunity cost of your current salary.

You really just need a portfolio of projects. Do 6 to 9 months of studying. Full time, 8 hours a day. Then spend another 6 months actually building something. It doesn't matter what it is, but put the source code up and start going to meetups and applying for jobs.

one just got fined in NYC for inflating employment. Flatiron School I believe. about 50% were what you would call gainfully employed for an average of $75,000 the rest were contract/temporary. that is horrible work in NYC when you consider the Unincorporated Business Tax and Obamacare. When I mean gainfully employed that can easily mean unlimited vacation (no vacation).

Good idea maybe 5-7 years ago. If I were to do it now would go to a real college I think Rutgers and Pace run OK bootcamps in NYC metro area.
