why do boomers live off of scheduling "meetings" & "calls"

Once you realize that "working" in the traditional sense of the private sector term (i.e to expend X amount of labor and capital to reap Y in profit where Y is greater than X) is irrelevant to boomers and their Gen X thralls it gets much much easier to understand them, what they are, how they operate.
For boomers still in the work force - especially in the professional positions - it is about clinging to power and relevance and entrenching yourself.
Most boomer firms are just like the late stage tyrranical government that the Founders warned us about: they simply exist to collect enough revenue to be able to exist until they can collect revenue again.
Very little actual thought is given to growth in profitability or innovation of any type.
The only advice that I would give to you is that if you encounter this you have to be aware that the organization you are a part of is likely ossified and being slowly destroyed by unchecked boomer intrigue and to prepare accordingly by making plans for your own breakaway firm, or your own exit strategy.

You also need to know that the history of the boomers is one in which they inherited a structure that was already built and well functioning. Indeed, the American Corporation of the 1950's was an enviable well oiled machine that took care of its worker with competitive salaries, a pension, paths to advancement and above all a management that understood they were, in the grand scheme of things, just stewards from one generation to the next.
What a contrast formed when the Greatest Generation and Silent Generation began to retire and slip away.
Almost immediately it became apparent that Boomers chief virtue is one of deconstrution. Never have I seen someone fight so hard to keep (and destroy) something that they didn't earn than a Boomer. Obama's "You Didn't Build That" was right in the context of the Boomers - perhaps that is why so many of his most ardent Boomer devotees found it objectionable to hear - because it struck too close to home.
Look at how boomers think: Outsource, downsize, subdivide, condominiumize - all these things are behaviors that involve atomization and destruction.
Many boomers, especially those in corporate life, are barely sentient locusts.
