I grew up lower middle class and have been laboring at the law for some time, first at Biglaw then in-house at good companies. My residence is now worth more than the houses of some of the parents of the "rich kids" I went to high school with. That means they either weren't so "rich" to begin with, or I have risen into another socioeconomic class and somehow can't really see it sometimes because I am so stressed with work.

The things you can find out on the Internet these days.

need more analysis here.

are you comparing the zillow values of your house now versus their houses now?

remember, they are olds now and probably haven't updated their house in quite some time.

Yes, that's sort of how I'm doing it. Zillow takes into account property upgrades inside the house?

I'm also looking at the houses of some of the rich kids from my high school who went into the top professions and I'm catching up to them even, especially if I add in one of my other properties. I'm not doing so badly I guess but it's kind of surreal. I don't have the best self esteem but I always knew I was a hard worker. Could this really be the proof of objective success?

why so stressed, brother? have you acquired the means of production in your field, or do you report to someone who earns a salary?

Don't compare yourself to these people. Just do you. But if that was a goal for you. Good shit!

It wasn't a goal but it makes me wonder about some interpersonal challenges I've had over the years. I had a hard time staying friends with these people despite very hard efforts to make these friendships work. Is it possible some of them felt threatened?
