Prefer the longest day, but a good movie.

There are at least 100 excellent war movies. Probably 250.

Breaker Morant.

You would love it. It is also my favorite court room movie. One of the very few few movies to acknowledge that legal proceedings are a farce.

Great movie.

Also liked Master & Commander and Platoon though they get little love.

this 9½-hour japanese film was one of the most memorable:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Human_Condition_(film_series)

it's one of the few films that depicts the soviet invasion of manchuria, too.

the russian war and peace film from the late-60's has gigantic battle sequences at borodino and krasnoi and also a lengthy sequence of the sack of moscow. the war scenes are mostly in parts III and IV of the 4-part film. you can watch the latter half just for that alone.

Thin Red Line and Dr. Strangelove were 11 and 12 on my list. Probably better movies than Gettysburg, but that movie is so amazing.

We were soldiers is also excelllent.

Paths of Glory is good, but I found it wanting in war action.
