I'm the wife lol. I was very nervous/sensitive when the baby was first born but have been fine since. Might be worth counseling to delve into it more? Or at least have a sit-down with her and find out what's up?

we've done one counseling session to discuss the specific issue of her blowing up at me screaming about once a week, but might need more for broader stuff

Nothing came from that session? How far back was that? How bad are the blowups? Is she irrational followed by apologetic or does anything of value actually come from it?

she hasn't really blown up at me since the session (a month ago) so i think she's worked on that issue. today she was snapping hard at me though so it was close to what happened before.

i don't think she's been willing to recognize the magnitude of her personality change. i've brought it up to her in various contexts.

Do there seem to be specific triggers for it? Is it always the same issue or different stuff? Is there a pattern (specific days or time of day)?

usually after work about once a week. no specific triggers, just seems like she is looking to pick a fight randomly one day

Maybe find an activity or offer her some alone time (take the kid out for an errand, etc) where she can figure out a way to calm down on her own?

Have her go to the gym or an exercise class after work. It’s a great stress release and no one is angry after a workout - endorphins etc.

I worked for a family lawyer for two years and many separations unfolded this way. UMC wife has baby, freaks out and starts to direct nonstop negative affect at dad/dad's family and has no insight into her behavior.

how did she recover? was it just an 18 month hormonal thing? or the pressure from having a young very needy baby created the personality changes?

first 4 months in particular are very stressful. Female hormone burst at birth is ridiculous and would drive anyone nuts.

Once we got the hang of dealing with babydood, and also the fact that he is super easy as far as babydood's go, we were able to get back into a routine. She also has a support network of Mamas where she can bitch about shit without having to take it out on me.
