Huge Browns fan here. TBH it would be a better idea than what they will end up doing, mark my words. As crazy as it sounds, would the Browns be better off if they had offered Foles $30 million last year when they had $50 million in cap room? They would have gone 3-13 and picked twice in the top five or so in a draft loaded with QBs - or maybe they would have made something out of Kizer. Then they'd be looking to improve on that record with a hopefully healthy Myles Garrett. If they thought Foles was the long term answer for $30mm a year, they could trade one of those picks for multiple picks next year so that some QB hungry team could pick Sam Darnold and then go 3-13 while he adjusts to the NFL. Alternatively, they could spend both picks on playmakers.
Of course, they're the Browns, so what they will actually do is trade down three times, reach for Josh Allen as their future QB, cut two draft picks in training camp, and go 1-15.
