it's slightly better than what you'd expect from a comedy television writer on his first effort at Hollywood auteurism using virtually an entire cast of unknowns. horror is a natural genre for this sort of foray. deserves praise for doing what it set out to do. that it's viewed upon as some sort of watershed moment in black filmmaking by liberals should honestly be construed as an insult to the filmmaker.

i thought it was funny where i knew it was trying to be serious. comedy is a lot easier to recite (not come up with you) than drama especially horror. house of 1000 and devil's rejects by someone unknown to film period were far better yet destroyed critically.
