That said, Marcus Miller seems to have the better feel for playing slower grooves, and playing slower is widely held to be more difficult. Obviously Victor can improvise a lovely rubatto as well as rapidly grab handfuls of sounds that no one else can, but when I compare the two players, I am reminded of another comparison, that between Jaco and Alphonso Johnson, which leads me to believe that Johnson had a MUCH better sense of groove than Jaco, but Jaco "played" the bass at a much higher level, or similarly, perhaps, to what has been said of Martin Amis, namely, that he writes a beautiful sentence, and then he writes another, and another, and so on, yet the whole does not seem to flow like "good writing." I find the dichotomy of Victor the person vs victor the musician fascinating. In interviews he is a very humble, unassuming, genuine and as you said "sweet" person. Victor the musician is a force. He can do things no one else can and he wants to show you and just be amazing. For a long time i felt this approach actually was distracting. Too percussive and it felt like he really only made sense as a solo artist. Recently I've been revisting his stuff and have been enjoying it a lot more. not sure why. |

Came with Seymore Duncan SPB-1 pickups (also scored the original Fender pickups), an extra massive Badass 2 Bridge (also scored the original Fender bridge) all for $325. Alder body, maple neck, this bass is in mint condition.
Been playing jazz basses so long, forgot how good a p-bass can feel. Practiced the p-bass tonight for about an hour, then picked up and started playing my jazz bass and was like "WTF? this neck/string spacing = cramped as fuck." |

I've never owned a p or jazz bass but just ordered a sire p7 last week. alder body maple neck model. Very excited for it to arrive. |

As far as the p-bass's neck as compared to that on a jazz bass, the p-bass is much roomier in the first position and just slightly wider at the 12th fret. Basically, I like it already much better than a jazz neck. |

you must have bigger hands than i do. i like the p bass sound for motown, soul and rock but the neck just felt too thick for me. the sire has a jazz neck, so if i turn off the bridge pickup it's the best of both workds for me.
