ExGF lived in a $3300/m 1br fullservice building. Mgmt company was slow to fix something. She complained to NYC tenant advocate, human rights, councilman, etc. Got it fixed within a few days and a month of free rent and an apology letter.

They just replaced that bit of ceiling every 6 months for 30 years. Not flame. We called 311. Did all that BS. They didn't care, it was a rent stabilized building and they didn't care.
Plus when I still rented I had rats coming out of.the wall three times a day and the landlord did nothing. When I left I tore out the fuckers floors and ripped open every wall. Sue me. I had to live with mother fucking rats while my house was being renovated. I took my pound of flesh for that. |

Deferred maintenance and repairs is a killer. I've always tried to tackle things now before they got any more serious. Doesn't mean I was always sending someone out for each item, but I'd try to tackle things sooner rather than later. Each landlord is different. |
