poetry seems like a lost art

there was a famous textbook example about the meaning of a "poem" involving a bit of text from a late-1800's geometry guide. someone discovered that one of the book's sentences could be formatted so that it followed the same rhyme-scheme as "in memorium" by tennyson:
"And hence no force, however great,
Can draw a cord, however fine,
Into a horizontal line
Which shall be absolutely straight."
that's the same meter as:
"I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."
but yet, the geometry text is not really a "poem." it could plausibly be part of a larger poem, but by itself, it's not very meaningful, because it lacks a grander narrative.
