at least the tiny houses or tiny plots of land in silicon valley are built to last.
my credentials: trying to build a high-end house in tennessee and finding construction cost-per-sq-ft for something with exceptional level of materials and finishings is about as expensive as in cali. |

the tiny houses in SV are not any better built than the homes built in houston. it is just dumb to think that. homes in houston do just fine despite higher levels of humidity and more variance in temperatures. |

also that sweet smell that lingers for years and years in those new homes are VOCs from formaldehyde and other carcinogens in the pressboard, cabinetry, and insulation. it takes at least $250/sq ft to build without those shoddy framing and shell materials. corporate builders putting up mcmansions @ $100/sq ft are cutting corners af even at economies of scale. |

The end result: massive student loans, massive mortgage payment, and job prospects below what the person thought they would have 5 years later. |
