In fairness I think this is simply a reflection of who has the money and time to take up small plane flying as a hobby.

i dont see rich business guys or tech doods flying their own planes..they seem to just hire a private jet with an actual pilot

I think small planes are also more of an Are country thing. Are country has fewer rich business doods and more rich doctors.

there are a lot of rich BIGAGRO and BIGCATTLE doods in ARE though - most of whom don't fly planes as a hobby

I still think there is some odd cultural element to it. for some reason flying small planes attracts doctors over BIGAGRO types

I live relatively near the San Carlos airport, plenty of rich techies fly out of here and Palo Alto in lieu of driving to Tahoe, etc.

no way a millennial could afford a hobby like this.

aviators used to call beechcraft bonanzas 'fork tailed doctor killers' because of this phenomena.

tbf, flying planes didn't used to cost much

my FIL used to fly small planes a ton in ARE before he had kids and he made almost no money back then in flyover

i dont know how much it costs now, but if they had been learning for awhile, it wasn't an expensive hobby like 20-30 years ago

what I do find odd is that you almost never hear of other rich doods in ARE (like BIGAGRO types) flying and crashing planes. It's pretty much always some middle class doctor in ARE.

I still have my grandfather's (deceased since the 1980's) logbook... never went to college. think he was an electrical lineman at one point. might have been cheaper back then. planes were simpler.

i'd assume doctors are flying more expensive planes, high performance planes than they are actually qualified to use. sort of like jfk jr
