I honestly do not understand.
-Disorganized website
-No customer service or live chat
-Tax on pretty much all items
-Hard to get in touch with sellers
-Often mediocre photos of the product
-Average pricing on most products

Subpar, defective merchandise, that neither Amazon nor their vendors are willing to be responsible for
Rude vendors
Lazy and disorganized customer service
---
On the other hand they support gay marriage and sell online cable packages, so I guess Millenials love them

Mostly one-stop shopping for a lot of things. Usually not the cheapest, but I don't want to spend 10 mins looking around to save $2 on bar soap anymore.
Their customer service is actually okay. Returns are easy. They'll often refund you and just let you keep the thing if it's not up to expectations.
It's really become an eBay-level shitshow, though. There will be 10 listings for the same product, with different options within each. Also, as xo has scholarship on, there's tons of garbage on there now.

honestly, the worst thing about amazon is something you didn't even mention:
every product now has chinese competitors with inflated reviews that are supposedly better than legacy brands, but are typically shit, pure shit. it's a constant battle where you're wondering if you're getting duped or missing out on some great savings.
i fucking hate their reviews so much. and good luck going to google! every cocksucker has a blog with affiliate links to more bullshit products!
it's very hard to know objectively what is best anymore unless you're really into something already

I want something, go to Amazon.com, click buy it now and get it 2 days later. It is just so fucking easy and prices are usually decent. They also give 0.5% to my local humane society via smile.amazon.com and sometimes give me shipping credits if I don't need something right away, plus subscribe and save gives me 15% off.
I still get some shit off of ebay or whatever I see cheap on slickdeals but Amazon is my go to for most things.

For ordering a bunch of random shit and getting it delivered in many cases next day, or at most two, nothing beats them. They do have live chat who will gladly refund shit basically no questions asked. Throw in their streaming + music + you can milk your alum .edu for discounted Prime and there is no reason not to use them.
Now, for expensive electronics, I'll use B&H or Adorama to avoid sales tax. For a lot of mid priced consumer electronics (e.g. electric toothbrushes) I'll use Costco for their ridiculous return policy.
