Reading was a great joy of my life when I was in middle school and high school. Read at least one book a week. Would stay up nights in bed reading till 1 or 2 in the morning.

Now I read articles linked to on twitter.

Haven't read a novel or non-fiction in book in at least a year.

You guys read?

Just finished Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther, read it in like 3 days (spaced out). I highly recommend it.

yeah I just spent like 45 minutes each time spread out across 3 sessions. Very quick read, but some of the passages where he opines about human nature are worth rereading several times

Goethe wrote it when he was 24, truly incredible

Largely told in a series of letters from Werther to his friend. Young guy falls in love with girl who is already engaged, but she leads him on ruthlessly. Lots of rather mundane descriptions of conversations and events, but sprinkled in are amazing philosophical statements about the nature of man, God, life, etc. Spoiler: he kills self at the end.

Every now and then I'll get really into a book but 4/5 books I attempt I can't stand the voice/plot. Joining a book club is a good way to make you read.

contemporary airport fiction is unreadable. it all reads like some dork's screenplay bid. but euro lit is fantastic and I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't read from the canon.

I try to have one novel of "real literature", one mystery genre book, and one collection of short stories going at any time. Probably read 2 books a month, but I'd like to double it and cut down on tv/xo.

I go through phases. It's weird when you are reading a lot it's hard to even imagine not wanting to read. But then you get out of the habit and it seems like a chore
