I'll tell you a story. A few years ago I went through a rough patch. I was unemployed, I had gotten overweight, I went through a period where I didn't have a girlfriend for a long time. Shit happens, life is messy. During this time, I became very bitter towards society. I started reading a lot of philosophy and tuned in to various ideologues and public intellectuals. I became a self-appointed prosecutor of society. Everyone and their behavior hung in my judgment. I thought life was unfair and I had all the answers. Everyone else was the problem.
And then I had a chance occurrence. I went to a party on a whim and I was in a very good mood that day. I went to the gym earlier. And I met a very cute girl that night and she basically threw herself at me. I barely talked to her or acknowledged her. We didn't talk about politics or anything like that. We certainly didn't discuss any XO related mental illness. It was a lot of laughing and smiling. I remember her favorite band was Backstreet Boys (tee hee). I ended up making out with her and fingering her on the couch. It made me feel pretty good. I pretty much dropped all the Jordan Peterson crap after that.
The point is you gotta lighten up and learn to have fun. That one night set me down a path of self discovery. It made me realize that the reason I was so angry all the time was that what I really wanted was social acceptance and romantic success. I did have to make some big changes in my personality. They don't happen overnight. It's a long and difficult process to figure out who you are and how to project a personality that women find attractive. The bad news is that it's a long painful process, which is why a lot of guys would rather be miserable. The good news is that any thoughtful person can do it if they are brutally honest with themselves and willing to change. |
