City-Data fucking IP banned me! I had to get a new IP

Date: March 12th, 2018 11:06 PM Author: electric ungodly new version yes, i could phone-post or fuck around with VPNs, but it's easier not to. here's what worked for me, in case you need a new IP and have a static IP from your ISP:
-i put the modem into something called transparent bridging mode, which is what you do when you have a separate router and modem and not a single unit
-i disconnected the modem and hooked up an old modem with a different MAC address, which forces the ISP's server to issue a "new" IP. it issued me the same IP, which is common. but the point is that the MAC address changed on the ISP's routing table.
-i disconnected the old modem and put the regular modem back about an hour later, still in transparent bridging mode. the ISP's server issued me a new public IP, and i took it out of TBM and into regular mode and was able to continue trolling city-data. |
