If not Xaiver and Kansas then UNC and Duke? I'm not sold on either. |

I think Gonzaga takes down Xavier and then it's the winner of UM/UNC for that regional.
Purdue is a strong 2 seed but Villanova should handle them.
Duke over Kansas. |

Date: March 14th, 2018 4:38 PM Author: Bossy weed whacker Duke/MSU is the toughest pick of the Sweet 16, brutal for both teams to matchup that early. obviously Duke won the game early this season at a neutral site, and I believe Bagley sat a lot of that game in foul trouble (think he got like 3 with 10 minutes left in the first half). But MSU has improved and Miles Bridges is a really tough guy to guard for Duke because they are kind of polarized between legit bigs (Bagley/Carter) and smaller guards (Duval/Trent/Allen), and Bridges is somewhere in the middle |

I'm hesitant on Virginia. They burned me in the past, and I don't like all-defense teams in the tourney.
That said, I have them in the final four in one bracket (and then losing to NC). Getting beat by Cincy in another bracket. And losing to 'Nova in the finals in my third bracket.
I can't pick them to win it all. Not with their style, their history, and losing their sixth man.
I think North Carolina has the easiest trip to the final four, and have them there in all three of my pools. |

Funny how they and Duke both lost to my Johnnies (who weren't close to making the Tourney -- they didn't even make the NIT).
I also like Cincci although they didn't play in a tough conference. |

No NBA-caliber stars really, just extremely well-coached and experienced. Hunter averaged like 9 points a game, which is great for a bench guy, but still not a backbreaking loss. They went 17-1 in arguably the toughest conference and won the conference tournament |

you have to be careful of these all-defense teams once the ncaa tourney comes around.
i've coached basketball for over a decade. if you are playing one pool, i'd be wary of making them my champ pick. more than one pool, i wouldn't begrudge it. but their offense scares me. |

one pool i'm in has the basic scoring system, no underdog bonuses, but villanova will be overpicked.
it's going to be 100 people, so in one entry i pick duke to beat nova and then win the title, and in my other i pick mich st to beat nova then win the title.
i have another one entry in a 100 person pool with an odd scoring system. it benefits upsets until the final four. so i leveraged picking appropriate upsets, but then going 'nova over virginia, the two top rated teams in the tourney, in the finals.
know your scoring systems. know your competitors. and still lose to a secretary. |
