Jfc . . . was all pumped up but it's not my night, the weights feel heavy, like the punches of a champion. Very hard to go up in strength when you're on a cut.
Somehow I pulled out one more bench rep than last time but it was all channeling Ippo's GUTS, body not cooperating at all.

Bros, I want to report that I just had my strongest (not necessarily weight but intensity) workout in five years, since before my multiple knee surgeries.
This whole time I've been always hitting a ceiling and bouncing off of it because my kneecap tracks weirdly and it's very uncomfortable walking in the days after I've trained squats and deadlifts hard (and that always makes me afraid to train harder for fear of reinjury). The problem is pain in the quad/it band where it was sliced open, causing my knee to shift inward, also a lack of flexibility and strength imbalance between my two legs. And thinking about it and trying to lift "right" makes it hard to be intense.
Tonight I just put on STAND PROUD and used every bit of mental intensity I had to force all of my energy onto the cut quad, and onto my opposite leg, which is ironically the "weak" one because it's where the tendon graft came from. I was completely locked in, picked a physically IMPOSSIBLE goal for myself (+10 lbs over workout three days ago where I barely got 6 reps, shooting for TEN reps with the increased weight). I thought about the cardio war in the Vorg fight the whole time, when Vorg finally had to take a breath and time stopped when Ippo nailed him with the massive GAZZELLE PUNCH. I was so locked in on this set that my legs and back shockingly could have pulled it off . . . my *GRIP* failed on rep 8.
Finished the rest of my work out in the same manner . . . with the same level of focus, lifting weights that should have been physically impossible until my already weakened grip failed. Dumbell literally fell out of my fucking hand doing curls because there was no way my biceps were quitting.
After, I did my first actual round of boxing in many years. Shadow boxing with resistance bands. Just one fucking round killed me by the 2:30 mark but my balance was not as embarrassingly bad as I expected. Could I . . . in my mid to late 30s . . . really return to the ring?

180, I was hitting the heavy bag today as well, but my stamina is shit since I'm trying to cut. I need to do more road work. build up that endurance.
The Vorg fight is the cr reference for the FIGHTING SPIRIT that Ippo brings to the table. Once you have that inner belief, you can start putting together all you learn like Ippo does in the Sendo rematch.

I just looked at my vids from 2011 to get some motivation. My first bag work sessions since retiring from the boxing gym in 2007. Probably 25 lbs heavier, some muscle some fat. Slow as fuck, no footwork, gassing out very quickly, zero bag control.
Then I watched more and realized that there was power behind the shots that were thrown properly and landed squarely. A segment where I was training my best punch--step in left hook to the body, rising left hook to the head--and it looked fucking vicious even on my first days back. I wonder if in 2018 . . . I can still throw a punch like that.

I'm still killing this shit HARD. I think when I started my tear maybe 6 weeks ago I was at some shit like 135x5 squats and 175x5 deadlift. Just banged out 225x5 and 275x5. And I've been CUTTING this whole time. I weigh a few pounds less than when I started, which means between the muscle added to my legs and creatine water weight I've lost 10+ lbs of bodyfat.
It feels so good to have my legs again. I feel like myself for the first time in over four years, since before the injury. I've been shadowboxing and my base is so stable . . . I can move in and out, head movement, slips followed by power punches, drop hips and wail away with hard hooks and uppers without losing center of gravity. I have no idea how I'm going to do when I put this shit into real practice, but I actually "look" like a boxer again.
Cant wait til I'm shredded and can go on dat bulk. Three plate squats and four plate deadlifts are coming back. Never thought I'd see the day. All thanks to XO IPPO's heart.

235x5 squat, 295x5 deadlift. Still going up on a big caloric deficit. Bodyfat decreasing big time as my legs rebuild, overall weight probably dropping .5 lbs/wk (which is an lot given what my legs are packing on. I look very very different than I did when I copped this soundtrack.
I just realized my weight is pretty similar and my lifts are pretty similar to what they were 5 yrs ago when I tore my ACL. I was on a cut then too so lifts weren't at their peak and were actually kind of languishing or even decreasing. Except this time they're skyrocketing with no end in sight. I'm applying all of the knowledge I gained over the past 5 years to create the PERFECT workout routine for me and my recovery capabilities.
In two more weeks I will be in decidedly better shape than I was 5 years ago, at my peak, directly before two knee surgeries. All thanks to Ippo-san. This was a major, major turning point in my life thanks to whoever started posting about this show. It really was the trigger that turned my loss and despair into hope.
After I did my lower body lifts, I decided to test my no-step vertical. No real warm up, hadn't really tried to jump high in over a year. 25-26 inches! With some more squat progress, 5 lbs of bodyfat loss, and a little bit of jump training it could easily get back into the 30s. Never, never thought I'd see that again. Like, I was shocked when I tried to jump and it worked because the last time I jumped it was pretty embarrassing.

330 x 4.5 deadlift. This rampage is unfuckingbelievable.
Literally two months ago I would stumble around from lack of balance if I tried to properly throw a power punch. Now my legs are like fucking rocks. I can plant them and sit there throwing alternating hooks with full torso swivel like fucking SENDO and they just. don't. move.
I'm in my mid, almost late 30s, and my body has taken on the characteristics of a steroid or trt user over this time period. SAVAGE acne on my back. hairline pulled back slightly but noticeably on temples due to all the extra DHT. *ALL* lifts are going up.
Will be interesting to see how Tuesdays 255x5 squat attempt goes. Every time I think the gains are going to hit a wall and slow down, they just keep going.
Btw these guys are pretty sick, like 80% of their songs sound like good anime intros:

OP here.
Crypto obsession KILLED me. And I met a chick and got married and I do think being in a relationship causes the loss of some intensity and testosterone. Along with aging into the over 40 bracket, which is a complete bitch.
On the plus side, busting my ass in crypto has me on the cusp of an early retirement. Moving to a greatly reduced work schedule in a few months. One more decent bull run and I'm out completely.
I'm out of shape right now but I think the extra time and reduced stress is going to reinvigorate my lifting. I'd barely worked out at all the last couple of months, but last week I made a point of prioritizing it.
185x10 on the bench. Nothing special, but at least it's not like I have to completely rebuild. Should be at 215x10 in six weeks.
