The study, based on anonymous earnings and demographic data for virtually all Americans now in their late 30s, debunks a number of other widely held hypotheses about income inequality. Gaps persisted even when black and white boys grew up in families with the same income, similar family structures, similar education levels and even similar levels of accumulated wealth.
The disparities that remain also can’t be explained by differences in cognitive ability, an argument made by people who cite racial gaps in test scores that appear for both black boys and girls. If such inherent differences existed by race, “you’ve got to explain to me why these putative ability differences aren’t handicapping women,” said David Grusky, a Stanford sociologist who has reviewed the research.
A more likely possibility, the authors suggest, is that test scores don’t accurately measure the abilities of black children in the first place.
If this inequality can’t be explained by individual or household traits, much of what matters probably lies outside the home — in surrounding neighborhoods, in the economy and in a society that views black boys differently from white boys, and even from black girls.
“One of the most popular liberal post-racial ideas is the idea that the fundamental problem is class and not race, and clearly this study explodes that idea,” said Ibram Kendi, a professor and director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University. “But for whatever reason, we’re unwilling to stare racism in the face.”

Several things:
1) Literally bling and rims.
2) Black guys are more likely to be heads of households, because every black guy with a good education is a huge catch, so he's supporting/feeding other mouths and spouse with activist low salary job. Also black UMC families do that dumb thing where they buy the nice remodel in a black neighborhood to not be sellouts and that kills their net worth. Meanwhile single black females can buy or rent cheaper in white neighborhoods because they prioritize safety, feed/clothe only themselves, no daycare, etc.
3) Per above, double AA means checks two boxes, plus mid-20s through early 30s is child bearing years, so much harder to fire for incompetence and much easier to keep around to populate various gender equality and diversity initiatives.
4) Guys who advance are expected to be visible and vocal to affirm that they've bought in. A quiet guy is viewed as stand-offish and "not a leader" in a professional setting. It's a weird by product of the 50 years representation and inclusion initiatives, but a quiet, under the radar black guy now makes white managers uncomfortable like they're favoring the striver white dudes over him. A quiet woman who doesn't drastically harm the business with her work product and who checks a URM box is doing exactly what she's supposed to do, and is less likely to make management uncomfortable with her low profile, especially if she's leaving to have babies all the time. But a black guy who gets too passionate in the workplace also makes white people (especially old white people) uncomfortable. It's just a trickier needle to thread for black guys in the early career stages where you need to have mentors and champions to move up.

The authors, including the Stanford economist Raj Chetty and two census researchers, Maggie R. Jones and Sonya R. Porter, tried to identify neighborhoods where poor black boys do well, and as well as whites.
“The problem,” Mr. Chetty said, “is that there are essentially no such neighborhoods in America.”
The few neighborhoods that met this standard were in areas that showed less discrimination in surveys and tests of racial bias. They mostly had low poverty rates. And, intriguingly, these pockets — including parts of the Maryland suburbs of Washington, and corners of Queens and the Bronx — were the places where many lower-income black children had fathers at home. Poor black boys did well in such places, whether their own fathers were present or not.

The article says they controlled for family education. What about the child's education?
It's well known that black women get higher education at rates far above those of black men. An applicant can't benefit from AA if the applicant doesn't get in the door in the first place.

I do not understand what the author is getting at here.
Edit: NM. I get he's saying that if it were an IQ thing then the results would apply to both black men and black women, but they only apply to black men.

(1) There are more jobs "available," i.e. often chosen (or, if you prefer, open to those who can actually do the work), that monetarily reward high intelligence for men than there are for women.
(2) Along with (1), men have a higher SD in most traits, including intelligence, than women. It's easier to see that at the right end of the income curve than at the left for obvious reasons.
(3) The fact that black men fall behind white men, as the study is concerned with demonstrating, exerts additional pressure on black women to earn that white women do not feel, given that white men typically pair with white women, and black men typically pair with black women.
(4) Black women are less likely than white women to be married, a phenomenon that exists at all income levels, which exacerbates the phenomenon in (2).
(5) Black women receive AA, which significantly boosts the income they would otherwise receive if they were hired, as white women are, based on whether they can perform the job, which of course ties to intelligence, conscientiousness, etc.
(6) There are a *lot* of black women in government with union-guaranteed pay increases. I'd be willing to wager the per capita government employment rate, when looking at anything above say a $40K+ annual HHI during childhood, would reflect that.

Obviously more women in school. But also, and no shitlib, black men are more likely to have police run ins that leave them with records that make school or fed jobs impossible. A few weed possession or assault charges that a cop would ignore of a white kid could get expunged may have lasting consequences. This is also fueled by societal expectations for black doods to be high T thug lifers.
Pretty sure even XO racists would admit non-African immigrant black males are at the bottom of the US social ladder.
