Chewy.com for dry food. They consistently have the best prices.
If you want to give wet food occasionally, it’s cheaper to just cook it yourself and freeze.
I can’t opine in whether pet insurance is worth it or not, as it is always a gamble whether or not you will end up needing it. You could pay $600-700/year and never use it. Also there are often congenital conditions that won’t be covered by insurance but you sometimes don’t know until you submit it and get denied.
I can say in my case, I’ve spent over $12k over 5 years, so I should’ve gotten insurance. He had a slipped disc that required a $7k surgery.

what's your wet food recipe? the rescue shrew gave us a recipe with ground turkey, but the problem is that kosher ground turkey is like $8/lb and this puppydood doesn't need to kosher meat.
how much wet and dry food do you give him a day and how many times a day?
why don't you get insurance now that he's getting older?

I don’t have a recipe, you can literally take any protein (chicken, turkey, salmon etc) and put some veggies (carrots, peas, squash etc) into it and brown rice and potatoes and make it into a stew. I mix half kibble and half wet food because he is picky. 1 cup twice a day.
Insurance now that he’s older and had surgeries is like over $1200/year. Again, it’s a gamble if it’s worth it or not.

nutella's puppydood and earl comparing STEW recipes.
srsly, sounds like a puppydood cholent!! any kosher poultry is expensive, as is salmon. would canned tuna be an acceptable protein? trying to think what else is cheap that is kosher.
yeah, rescue shrew said do half wet and half dry. she said 1/3 wet and 1/3 dry TOTAL for the day. he's 10-11 lbs now but he's underweight. maybe he needs much more. how big is your puppydood now?
for premium purposes, how do they know the dog's age? both of our dogs are rescues. there's no way to know. cant you just underestimate by a couple years?

Why do you need to buy kosher dog food? Can't you buy non-kosher dog food if it's not for your consumption?

Seems the only time you need to be careful is around passover.

Taste of the wild is good kibble.
Here's a good site dedicated to this: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com
Uh, your dog isn't a jew, is it? So why would it need to keep kosher?

As others mentioned, you don't want to skimp on dog food, but a lot of the expensive dog food out there is FLAME.
Our dog is allergic to legumes, peas, and brown rice, which makes it a real bitch to find him dog food. We ended up going with this, and it has been 180:
https://www.chewy.com/victor-select-nutra-pro-active-dog/dp/129281
Much cheaper than most of the other high end dog food (about half-price), and it has high quality ingredients. Also, Victor makes all of their food in-house, which is rare, and has a good track record for avoiding contamination.
Also, use a measuring cup to serve the dog food and error towards the low end for serving sizes. Keep your dog skinny, and you will avoid many health issues.

Jesus christ dog owners are mentally ill these days. (Sorry to trigger you, "pet parents"!)
LJFL at feeding your "fur babies" organic, gluten free dog food, complaining about their food "allergies," and paying for them to get chemo.
Yes, meat is best, but dogs are just fine eating dry food mixed up with some water. How do I know this? Because MILLIONS OF FUCKING DOGS have done this EVERY YEAR for DECADES.
It is telling how many of you (DBG, TMF, MND, Earl, etc.) are wasting your prime breeding years caring for an animal rather than a child. This is reminiscent of the Japanese obsession with pets immediately prior to them entering negative population growth. (Pets now well outnumber children there.) Some sort of transference shit going on for sure.
Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and had lots of pets growing up, but JFC people get a grip - dogs are animals intended to serve man. They should be respected and treated well but they don't need to be on your retarded fad diets.

no, that's to keep him from rubbing his shit covered asshole on my couch and on the pillows on my bed.
His asshole is clean after shitting probably 85% of the time. But 10-15% he has some shit back there that needs wiping.
you would not sit on your couch naked after taking a shit without wiping your ass.
I also wipe his feet after he goes out.

it is an asian thing.
But try wiping your dogs ass for a week, I guaranty some of the shits will leave shit residue on the asshole or on the fur. You don't see it on his asshole but its there.
If fact, I dog sat a lab for 2 days and wiped his ass and he did have a shitty ass for one out of the six walk/poop sessions as I recall.

Ive switched brands like 2-3 times and found a limited ingredients kibble and it’s fine but he doesn’t like the kibble so I cook some food I know he’s not allergic to make it tastier.
He has a relatively short life; why not give him some extra joy in it and I spend 30 min a week cooking up a big batch that lasts a few weeks. It’s not a matter of treating our dog like a child or spoiling him. Dogs are simple creatures and get joy out of eating and exercising and spending time with you. Why would I deny him one of the few things he enjoys by just giving him the same dry kibble he hates everyday when a small effort on my part can make it more tasty for him and it’s also healthy for him. I’d say it’s the least I can do for him.
I sure as hell do 100x more for an actual human child cooking and planning meals instead of just adding a bunch of boiled chicken and salmon and peas.
