Date: March 19th, 2018 7:46 PM Author: Lascivious Trailer Park Pervert I have seen cynical, experienced engineers intentionally use arcane data structures, weird overarchitecturing, subtle bugs, unnecessary verbosity and complexity, etc. to make their code difficult to comprehend. If they've written enough of it, no one will be able to work with it easily. I've seen one company re-hire an engineer that did this, and they paid him ridiculous hourly rates to fix the mess he intentionally made nearly impossible to understand. Normally this is done by extremely intelligent but pretty autistic and socially crippled engineers who have few other ways to defend themselves.
