I was okay with that until it transitioned to becoming less interesting to myself.

its possible to stay interesting. you just have to spend more money and its exhausting. for example, you cant spend 3 hours a day practicing music with your band or going to trendy gallery showings every night. and those kind of every day restrictions suck because they close off a lot of doors. but you can pick up pretty crazy, expensive hobbies that others would have to spend years saving up for and that dont require daily commitments. like rally car racing. or high end skiing. or 3 day weekend trips to cool countries on a whim when youre slow for a day. so the problem isnt entirely big law. its also the fact that big law attracts boring, risk averse, miserly people. and they would probably still be boring even if they worked as teachers or contractors.

"but i dont like rally car racing/skiing/traveling"... well, those are examples, and if you cant think of something cool and fun to do with 100k+ more than you need to survive a year, then it is you that is boring. you were probably boring anyways.

"but i dont have weekends and work 2700/hrs a year" ... okay ill grant you the above doesnt apply to 1st or 2nd years. if by 3rd year you dont have enough control over your life to eek out some enjoyment, thats somewhat on you. you can always lateral. most mid levels and above i know could make the above situations work.
