are my only decent options the MDX and RX?

Zero reason to buy used at that price point. The CX5 and CRV in the high trims have every luxury SUV feature and are just missing 60HP. I'd rather a new CX5 be it slightly underpowered than a used Acura with 250hp. Seriously, the CX5 interior actually makes Acura look like shit.

i wanted to really hate this take but no shit, they actually have similar interior room (the mdx is a little bigger). however, it's more of a 90-110 hp bump, and i doubt they will have similar material or ride quality.

how about the highlander?

How ok are you getting it with basically no frills? The problem is that Japanese cars don't really depreciate, so you may as well buy new.

The CX-5 has double thick glass for Mercedes level sound insulation. What you don't get is fancy adjustable dampeners that let you customize the suspension in sports or eco mode but that shit is total flame in any car under 350hp anyway. Oh, what a sports mode in your 7 second to 60 SUV! The base BMW X3 is 248 hp and just a retarded buy at $43k. That's really what I was thinking about. At 43k it's missing half the options on the Mazda too. You're just paying for the badge and getting robbed.

The base Grand Cherokee has a really horrendous transmission and the interior is very fucking dated now. The higher trims are 180 though. The one with the Hellcat engine is a religious experience.

I agree, which is why he should get a higher trim (with the 5.7L engine) used (which, incidentally, is exactly what I did).

The hellcat is awesome but ridiculously expensive. My Mercedes GLE AMG will cost about that.

So I’m in a weird situation. Currently leasing a hatchback, wife has a Prius. Found a buyer for my car that allows me to walk away scot-free with a year left on my lease. We have a 3 month old baby (first child). I know that I want to buy a Miata in a year or two as my fun car if we can swing the finances, but we’ll need another car for me to haul family.

So I could get a new Accord or something now, but it could be small in a couple years when we have a second kid, or we get an suv now but it might be too much car?
