I’m not. I also think my parents had almost nothing to do with how I turned out. All those 4 hour piano practices did nothing but create a ton of resentment now that I’m an adult.

Your parents could’ve attempted to socialize you normally, but you would’ve turned out the same too. Only they prob made it worse because they encouraged the aspie.

I think there’s a lot parents can do to fuck up kids in terms of abuse, neglect but very little they can do in ensuring their kids turn out great.

They just said “get good grades and play piano, no fun, and no hanging out with your friends” and that was it. By middle school, I was in a environment with a bunch of overachievers so of course my success then was influenced by that environment and not my parents.

A different kid with a different personality who didn’t already have the discipline and submission would’ve rebelled and the whole thing would’ve failed spectacularly. That’s the personality I was born with that’s allowed me to succeed as a wagecuck. I didn’t get that personality because my parents made me study and play piano as a kid.

Your case is more complicated but it’s possible that if they stuck you in a normal environment with normal socialization, you would’ve become more normal. I do think peer environment matters a lot more than parents do past like age 8-9 or so. But it’s also possible, maybe even probable, that peer pressure to conform wouldn’t overpower your aspie nature to piss off and alienate everybody.

There are also tons of books written about the nature v nurture debate, see “the nurture assumption” which argues that genes and peer environment matter far more. My overall belief is that the influence of parenting is overblown, but that makes parents incredibly uncomfortable because they spend so much time and money on their kids that they have to believe it matters.

I have no idea what RSF’s family did or didn’t do. Maybe his dad did neglect him, which everyone seems to believe. But it’s quite possible they were normal parents who wanted the best for him and hovered, but just had a lazy son.
