WASHINGTON — A Woodbridge, Virginia, man who is facing charges after police said he sexually assaulted a woman he lived with and threw chemicals on her body was identified as an Alexandria police officer Tuesday.

Khurram Chaudhary, 31, is a nearly four-year veteran of the department, the Alexandria Police Department said in a statement Tuesday. He was placed on administrative leave and had his police powers removed Friday, March 16, when he was arrested by Prince William County police.

Chaudhary is being held without bond on a number of charges after Prince William County police investigated and charged him in three different instances of abuse alleged by a 30-year-old woman he lived with over a six-month period between June 2017 and January 2018.

“In one of the instances, the accused pushed the victim before pulling out a knife and pressing it against her back,” said Prince William County Police Officer Nathan Probus.

She was not cut, but it was the first sign of what turned out to be an escalating domestic violence situation, he said.

Chaudhary poured Ajax cleaning solution on the woman he lived with. In the third attack, Probus said Chaudhary raped the woman.

Alexandria police started investigating Chaudhary last week on an internal complaint when allegations of domestic violence surfaced, the department said.

“Staff immediately contacted Prince William County police to conduct a concurrent criminal investigation with Alexandria detectives,” Alexandria police said. Their investigation is ongoing.

Probus said police intervention, especially if the violence is escalating, is critical.

“Thankfully, she did come forward; we were able to investigate it and place the appropriate charges on him, and he is being held without bond,” Probus said.

Chaudhary is facing rape, malicious wounding by caustic substance, and domestic assault and battery charges.

His court date is still pending scheduling.
