never lived there but have been for work quite a few times
The city itself is shit. It's spread out and you really need a car to do anything. There are lots of aggressive bums waiting around for busses.
There are more weed shops than starbucks and mcdonald's combined. This is pretty chill, but means that everyone in the service industry is baked 24/7. Food is pretty good though and there is a food truck scene if you are into that.
Given the influx of young stoners, there are few "adults" in the city. I think the oldest person I encountered at my hotel was in her early 30s. Everyone else was early to mid 20s.
The other side effect of so many millennials is that service is shitty. People just want to be done with you so they can go to yoga class or head to the hills to ski. There are a fair amount of the subaru driving trustifarians from places like Scarsdale, etc. (Colorado College grads, namaste lifestyle, etc.)
The airport is far as fuck from the city and there is awful traffic going there.
Housing is being propped up by the cannibusiness. People who make big cash money can't bring it out of state or put it in banks that send money out of state so they are buying real estate cash. There are tons of developments going up with town houses selling for like $700k.

My experience is in the Capitol Hill area. I don't deny there are a few walkable areas, and there are sidewalks pretty much everywhere, which is nice, but the distance you have to travel from one place to another makes it a not very walkable city. It is similar to Nashville, Minneapolis, or Atlanta, where there are definitely neighborhoods and strips of businesses where you can drive, park your car, and walk around, but it does not have the walkability of an east coast city, chicago, or SF.

being the first to have legal weed was not good for the city. lots of small crime. lots of people hanging around.
but if you like nature and spend your time out of the city it's credited.
