I get that it doesn't say Thomas actually touched him with his hand, but it's implied.

If the church had rigidly adhered to what scripture suggests about the afterlife, it wouldn't have become the Church. Most people want to believe the afterlife is a lot like their current lives--they don't want to think too much about passages like Mark 12:18–27.
