an MLB team will designate one of its other position players as the "emergency catcher" who will play catcher if ALL actual catchers are injured during a game. typically, it's somebody who played catcher in college or even high school but then switched to another position.
for example, on the Washington Nationals, Bryce Harper, an outfielder, is the emergency catcher, because I think he played catcher in high school.
If an MLB team has more than 1 days notice that all of their catchers are fucked, they'll just bring up a minor league catcher |

Look at save percentages. If a goalies save 93% of the shots they see, then they are winning or a finalist for the Vezina. If they save 88%, back to the AHL, fucko.
So it's really 1 in 20 shots the differentiates between world class goalies and those that can't stay on the roster. |

Goalie and NHL forward/defenseman are incredibly different skill sets. Skates are different, all the motions are different, you worry about different shit. The average player would barely be able to move in goalie gear much less stop 7 shots. |
